Domain Transfer Guide for New Website Builds
Congratulations on launching your brand new website with Kinship! Your site is built, fast, and ready to go. The absolute final step is telling the internet where to find it.
Your website address (like yourcompany.com
) is called a Domain Name. This name is owned by you and is managed by a company called a Domain Registrar (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.). We need to change a setting with your Registrar to point your URL to your new Kinship Platform.
To ensure a seamless launch with zero downtime, we need access to the place where you bought your domain name. Follow the steps below to provide us with access so we can get your site live as soon as possible.
01 Identify Your Registrar
First, you need to know where you manage your domain. This is not necessarily where your old website was hosted!
- Common Registrars: GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Network Solutions, etc.
- Action: Log into the account you used to purchase your domain name.
02 Provide Registrar Access
We need temporary access to perform the quick update.
- Access Needed: Your login credentials for the Domain Registrar (username/email and password).
- Why we need it: We will update the Name Servers (the internet's "GPS coordinates") to point your domain to the Kinship Platform. We handle this technical change securely and immediately.
.
03 We Handle the Change (DNS Update)
Once we have access, our team will make the necessary update to the DNS Records.
- What we do: We change the old Name Servers (which pointed to your old host) to the new Kinship Name Servers (which point to your new, faster site).
- What happens next: This change starts a worldwide process called propagation. It usually takes 2 to 24 hours for every internet server around the globe to recognize the new address. During this time, some visitors might see the old site, and some might see the new site.
This is normal! - Confirmation: Once propagation is complete, your new Kinship website will be live globally! We will confirm the launch with you.
- Important Note: If you are hesitant about sharing your login, you can provide us with a screenshot of your "Manage Name Servers" page. We will then send you the exact new Name Server values to plug in yourself. Either way, we make sure the final connection is perfect.
